The Astrology Enigma
Anyone who believes in astrology is operating irrationally. If you don’t understand why, you may safely skip this Thought and return to your horoscope, where you will discover that you and the other twelfth of the world that was born on the same month as you are predisposed to success (or lack thereof) because of a fortuitous alignment of the planets.
Anyone who accepts the orthodoxies of organized religion is similarly benighted. If you don’t understand why, you may safely skip this Thought and return to your prayer book, where you will discover that you and the other fraction of the world that was born into your tribe are predisposed to success (or lack thereof) because your God is better and truer and more omniscient than the other guy’s.
Now, those who believe in astrology and certain orthodox religions that assume life begins at the moment of conception have a logical problem. If you accept either one of these assertions (that life begins at the moment of conception; that the month you are born predetermines your character and personality) then the other one must be false. Religious orthodoxy and astrology disprove each other.
Perhaps we can attribute the wretched state of the world to an enormous mislabeling of humankind. Everyone walking around thinking he’s a Capricorn is actually a Gemini. And every Virgo is really a Leo. Unless — wait a minute! — life actually commences when we emerge from our mother’s womb. In that case, Cancers really are Cancers, Pisces are Pisces, and those religions who assert life begins when sperm collides with ovum have a little explaining to do.
Either way, it’s an enigma.
