Like us, you may have tired of the extravagantly talented comedian Sacha Baron Cohen shooting fish in barrels. Borat, Bruno — these characters exploited backwards and stupid folk for cheap laughs. That’s why it took us so long to see “The Dictator.” His latest harkens back to Cohen’s early days as the inscrutable hip-hop interviewer Ali G, who skewered the rich, powerful and hypocritical, delivering brutally comic comeuppance. In this case, he plays Admiral General Aladeen, a composite of the worst people in the world. The movie is LOL funny. Even better, Cohen delivers a climactic monologue that slyly compares America with our despised enemies, underlining how our imperialist behavior isn’t much different than the dictators we fight. Brilliant!
