“Goodness”
The righteous social justice publisher, Wising Up Press, from Decatur, Georgia, has released their latest anthology, this one simply called Goodness. Several dozen writers grapple with the concept, sharing poems, short stories, essays, and many affecting memoirs, all manifesting a sense, a feeling, of something we all recognize and yearn for but often cannot define. (A full chapter excerpt from our book The Unexpected Guest is one of the selections.) Pieces on illness, death, incarceration, infidelity and loss seem, at first, to explore the darkness in human hearts; but, really, they provide the illuminating light of kindness and compassion many of us seek. It’s a deeply moving book, a necessary book. The time is always right for a collection like this, perhaps now more than ever.
