Rory Scovel
The Los Angeles-based comedian Rory Scovel has some funny jokes written down somewhere. But he doesn’t really need them. Scovel, who’s currently destroying Montreal’s “Just for Laughs” festival, is an ingenious improviser who owns the rare skill of being able to live in the golden present, with his audience, inside the energy, every minute he’s on a stage. He’s immensely likable, in a cute Southern boy kind of way. Scovel’s also blazingly smart, wildly imaginative, and utterly fearless: a comedy giant. If you’re fortunate enough to see him live, we can’t tell you what material (if any) he’ll perform. But we can tell you it will be deliciously funny.
